How the Random Synonym Generator Works
When you press Generate, the tool filters the word database by your chosen part of speech, then selects an entry at random using Math.random(). Every word in the filtered set has an equal probability of being returned — the tool does not weight common words over rare ones, so "quickly" is just as likely to appear as "carefully" when generating adverbs. Each entry in the dataset bundles the base word, its part-of-speech tag, a plain-English definition, and exactly 8 synonyms chosen for meaningful variety in register and formality.
All generation runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server and no result is stored. When building this dataset we selected synonyms that genuinely substitute for the base word in at least one context, rather than listing every loosely related term — the goal is a set you can drop straight into a sentence. A true synonym shares the same core meaning and is interchangeable in most contexts — for example, "rapid" and "swift" both mean fast.
