How the Random Animal Generator Works
When you press Generate, the tool builds a pool of animal names from the category you selected — or all 175 species combined when "All Animals" is active. It then uses JavaScript's Math.random() to pick a random index into that pool, giving every species an equal chance of appearing. There is no weighting toward familiar animals like Lion or Eagle — a Narwhal or a Weevil is just as likely to come up.
Everything runs in your browser — no data leaves your device, and nothing is stored between sessions. When building this tool we deduplicated the species lists to ensure animals that span multiple categories (such as aquatic mammals) are counted once and draw fairly.
